Cable TV Wiring

Cable TV Wiring requirements vary on a facility by facility basis. Our experienced engineering staff will assist in determining the best alternative. Many times existing antenna or cable TV wiring can be used as-is; in other cases some modifications are needed.

Often more than one cable television wiring scheme may exist such as a master antenna system co-existing with a cable TV system. When service from the franchise cable company is discontinued, how the disposition of wiring is treated is based on any written agreements, the Cable Act, and local state law.

In larger campus settings sometimes new underground cable wires are installed if the existing wiring cannot be purchased. Sometimes the equipment on-site that is owned by the cable company is so bad the facility would be better off with new. 80% of the time, however, SeniorTV engineers - working with your maintenance staff - can use quality upgrade methods so as not to completely rewire, saving thousands of dollars.

Types of Indoor Wiring

TV Outlets are looped together in long chains. This system is typical of older buildings. Often the wiring is good, but the wall plates need replaced with newer shielded types.

A trunk line generally runs down the center hallway with connection from the rooms at either side.

Each outlet or apartment with multiple outlets has a single wire going directly to a central wiring closet.

Outside Wiring

Based on the size of the campus and distance between buildings, different methods are used to distribute signal. Options include single and multi-mode fiberoptic cables, .750 and .500 direct burial hardline cables, RG-11 and RG-6 coaxial cables. Most coaxial systems utilize trunk amplifiers and line extenders that are powered using 60 volt AC power supply from the headend, elimiinating the need of AC power in the field.

Systems are oten constructed with 2-way capability allowing return broadcasts from anywhere on campus and for high-speed internet access. Each system is unique and our experienced engineering staff can design and install a quality system providing perfect pictures thorughout your campus.

With the new construction and renovations, it is beneficial if SeniorTV becomes involved in the planning stages. We can assist you in determining the best routes for cable pulling to coincide with other services including electric and telephone and offer suggestions on implementing the system. We can provide the installation turnkey or in whatever capacity to minimize cost. SeniorTV does not necessarily have to install the new cabling ourselves, but can provide engineering services and materials so the wires may be pulled at the same time by whomever is doing the telephone or electric. After the wiring is in place, our staff can provide splicing and activation.
